Yummy: My Favourite Nursery Stories by Lucy Cousins

What is it?
Red Riding Hood

Who wrote it?
Lucy Cousins

Where can it be found?
in Yummy: My Favourite Nursery Stories by Lucy Cousins

Adaptation?
Not so much adaptation as abbreviation, or brief re-write.

My thoughts in exactly 10 words:
Like Cousins’ illustrations, this version is bright, bold and succinct.

Extended thoughts:
People may know Lucy Cousin’s Maisy, who is painted in bright primary colours. If anything, the illustrations in Yummy are slightly looser, without losing the appeal of being solid and engaging. The written text is pared back to be bear minimum, in exactly the same way her illustrations are without losing the essence of the story. You can tell that Lucy Cousins had fun with this collection, because it is so much fun to read. It’s as if she kept the main plot points and got rid of all the frills, which makes them perfect, short reads for young children.

Favourite Quote:
“He chopped the wolf open and out stepped Grandma and Little Red Riding Hood. “Hooray!” they cried. Then they are up the food in the basket and lived happily ever after.”

Moral of the story in my own words:
Don’t divulge your destination to furry faced strangers.
